With an increase in oil and gas industry traffic, officials in Harrison County are making sure that students stay safe while on the bus.

Sheriff Joe Myers says for the past couple of years, he along with Harrison Hills School District have sent out a list of bus routes and pick up times to all of the oil and gas companies working throughout the county.

“We just ask for 12 hours to share the road watch for kids standing along road and stop and when the buses are stopped,” said Sheriff Myers.

Sheriff Myers says routes begin as early as 5:15 in the morning and end as late as 6:00 o’clock in the evening each day.  He says since they began doing this they haven’t had any incidents involving an oil and gas truck and a school bus.
