A video circulating social media that was reportedly shot at Wheeling Park High School’s prom has over 34,000 views. In the video, a male voice is heard telling students, “For those of you who aren’t enjoying yourselves, there’s the door.” Students can be heard gasping and saying “Oh my Gosh!” The man continues to speak to the students, “This is the music being played, whether you enjoy it or not!”
Many upset students, parents and community members responded to the video posted on Facebook and expressed their disappointment that the students were not able to enjoy their prom experience because of the music that was played. A number of local businesses have teamed up to throw a second prom for the students.
Advanced Entertainment, based out of Martins Ferry, C.A. House Music and the McLure Hotel are holding what is being called “Prom 2.0” on Saturday, May 21.
DJ Daner, of Advanced Entertainment, said he felt bad many students said they did not enjoy their prom experience, so he wanted to organize an event for them to enjoy. A number of parents also assisted in the planning of the event.
The tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, May 4. They cost $5 for students who did not attend the original prom. Students who did attend prom and can validate it with a picture from the night or their original tickets can get in for free. Students will also need to show a Wheeling Park High School ID to be able to purchase tickets at the McLure.
Security will be provided, and the money collected will be used to pay for officers and refreshments.
The event is not affiliated with Wheeling Park High School or the Ohio County Board of Education.
