Car break-ins and thefts are on the rise and Police are urging you to keep your eyes open and your doors locked.
In the last week nearly 20 vehicles have either been broken into or have had items stolen. The items have mostly been change and other loose items, but there have also been items of value taken from the vehicles as well, “One of the cars, two feet outside of the living room,” said Karin Janiszewski, one of the break-in victims.
Janiszewski said they went to bed around midnight Monday, then someone in the house was back up at 4 o’clock Tuesday morning, so she says the incident had to happen during that four-hour window of time and the vehicles weren’t far from the main living space, “For someone to have the nerve and the audacity to come right up and into your house and go through your car, and that car was ransacked, they couldn’t find what they wanted, obviously, so they just made a mess of it,” Janiszewski said.
St. Clairsville Police said some of the thieves had been bold enough to go into garages if the doors were left open, to retrieve items.
The most recent string of break-ins happened on Hutchinson Drive. Police remind everyone to keep your doors locked at all times.
