One church, with the support of the community, has opened their doors to spread holiday warmth to people in the Ohio Valley who otherwise wouldn’t have anywhere to go New Year’s Day.
First Presbyterian Church in downtown Wheeling decided to spend the day making sure the homeless have a warm retreat and three good meals.
With so many places closed for the holiday, Larry Kline with the New Worshiping Community said some people would have no where else to go.
“Normally they go to the library, they go to Catholic Charities, but today all those are closed; so we wanted to open this event and we’re really pleased to be able to serve them,” he said. “We served breakfast, we’re going to serve lunch, and we’ll have hot dogs for dinner.”
All the food, including turkey with all the fixings served for lunch, was donated by a number of other businesses and organizations in the area.
