“This profession today of law enforcement, they are targets. This is been more difficult than I’ve ever seen in than the last 40 years that I’ve been associated with law enforcement of government work,” said Steubenville City Manager James Mavromatis speaking about the tragedy that took place in Dallas Thursday night.
He agrees with the Dallas Chief of Police David Brown, calling the shooters “cowards” saying they capitalized on a peaceful protest where they knew more police officers would be to help protect First Amendment rights. However, he adds that Steubenville and Dallas are not comparable.
“We have a very good community here,” said Mavromatis. “We have a mixture of a lot of different ethnic groups here, and we get a long together like we should. Instances that happen across our county, I don’t put that in this community here. It’s a great community here. We have a mixture of every walk of life here, and that’s why I enjoy it here.”
The city manager adds that he urges police officers everywhere to stay sharp and asks for the community to pray for our officers.
