The retirement of a police chief in one local county left city council scrambling to look over resumes and hire a new chief.
Now, after looking over many qualified applicants, a decision has been made regarding a new police chief in Weirton.
On Wednesday, the department named Rob Alexander the new chief. Alexander has been a member of the department for over 20 years, working his way up to sergeant of the detective division.
Alexander said he doesn’t have a list of items he would like to focus on yet. He said former chief Bruce Marshall left the department in good standing and he’d like to continue Marshall’s work.
The swearing-in ceremony for Alexander is scheduled for Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.. His first full day as chief will be on Monday.
