Clean-up Efforts Continue, National Guard To Assist

UPDATE: Saturday 10:30 p.m.
The City of McMechen is requiring all vehicles parked on Marshall Street to be moved by 6  a.m. so that the National Guard can come in and clean up.

The National Guard will be arriving at 7am. If you live on Marshall Street and you have flood debris, place it on the side of the street to be collected by the National Guard.

Any vehicle still on Marshall Street at 7am will be towed.

UPDATE: Saturday, 9:30 a.m.

Clean-up efforts begin Saturday morning after another round of flash flooding hits the Ohio Valley. 

The McMechen and Benwood areas were some of the hardest hit, with severe damage being reported on Marshall Street in McMechen and on Boggs Run. 

Swift water rescue crews were sent to McMechen overnight to help residents evacuate from their homes.

-McMechen is UNDER water. Many residents have called into 911 for rescue from their homes.

-All exits between Wheeling & Marshall County are closed or are in the process of being closed right now in BOTH directions.

-Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard is URGING PEOPLE TO STAY HOME. Sheriff Howard says it’s bad pretty much everywhere throughout the county and there is a lot of water running off the hillsides.

-Swift water rescue should be arriving in McMechen at any moment to assist with people trapped.
