Commissioners Mourning the Loss of Clerk in Jefferson County, OH

Archives

Commissioners, co-workers and residents in Jefferson County are mourning the loss of long-time clerk, Linda Porter.

Porter, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend from a stroke, worked for the Jefferson County Commissioners for 42 years. She had a large personality and was known for being tough and her colorful use of language.

Commissioner Chairman Dr. Thomas Graham says Porter will be remembered by those who worked with her as being extremely loyal to the commissioner’s office. “She had such enthusiasm and passion in protecting the commissioners, making sure we did everything right legally and ethically, and her wealth of knowledge is more than the three commissioners put together,” said Graham.

Graham says he’s worked with Porter for 13 out of those 42 years.

Graham says they plan on dedicating a plaque in her honor at the courthouse in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, the commissioners must now look to hire a new clerk, but Graham says no one will be able to replace Porter and the vast amount of knowledge she acquired over the years.
