People who live in East Wheeling are saying this is a sad day for their community, because it’s a good community filled with good people.
Those people also say it was a scary situation just after 1:00 Friday morning.
“This morning I was sitting at my desk, here, working on the show and I heard a pop, pop, pop,” said 7News Reporter, Samantha Gretchen.
Shots could be heard throughout East Wheeling as the incident happened just one block away from the 7News Studios and just one block away from the City/County building.
“We were sitting downstairs just talking and we heard five or six rapid pop, pop, pop, pop, pop noises and usually there’s some fireworks going off in East Wheeling; so we thought no big deal, but then we started thinking about it and thought those didn’t quite sound like fireworks,” said East Wheeling Resident, Nic Cochran.
People who live in the area are sad that an incident like this has taken place in a community they love.
“It’s heartbreaking for me, it’s heartbreaking for our community, it’s heartbreaking to think that this is what our children are growing up and thinking this is a way to solve problems, when it’s not,” said East Wheeling Resident, Kate Marshall.
The overwhelming feeling for some is sympathy, not only for the man who has died, but also for our youth and hope they won’t follow the same paths of the three men involved in this case.
“I hurt for the families,I hurt for the people who would again look toward violence to solve their problems and my prayers are just with our community today,” said Marshall.
When new information is released in this case, we’ll be sure to pass it along to you.
