We’re expecting a statement from Ohio County Superintendent Dr. Diana Vargo this week, following the board’s decision to not renew her contract.
Tuesday night, board members went directly into executive session for 30 minutes before the motion was made to not renew Dr. Vargo’s 4-year contract, which expires in June. Board President Shane Mallet says they decided to go a different direction.
Reaction from tax payers is strong, as we have been flooded with comments on the decision since the moment it happened.
The overwhelming reaction from those in Ohio County is they want answers.
Many of the people say they support Dr. Vargo and believe she has done a good job during her decades of service with the county and in the last three-and-a-half years as superintendent with the district.
“If they were going to terminate her contract they should have at least a reason for it,” said Linda Foose.
“She did a good job for the county and for the school system, I’d just like some details on why they didn’t decide to renew her contract, said Terry Myles.
“I greatly admire Dianna Vargo, she has been somewhat of an acquaintance for many years, I admire her as an educator and I think she has done a fine job, here in Ohio County. I am very surprised,” said Diane McCulloch.
“So as a public; I think we need to know why one person did not vote to keep her, she should be kept; she’s apart of our community, we love her,” said Sharon Zelkowski.
The position is expected to be posted as early as next week.
We’ll continue to bring you any new details on this developing story.
