Decision to Stop Closing of Beallsville High School Expected to be Made Next Week

The battle for Beallsville High School continues.

A hearing was held in Monroe County Circuit Court on a preliminary injunction that was recently filed to stop the school’s closing.

The motion, filed by Beallsville resident Lou Bedford and Keystone Committee– a group  Beallsville area residents against the Switzerland of Ohio School District, alleges that the board improperly voted to close the school at a meeting held in February.

Committee members say they are confident that there is enough evidence to go forward with the injunction.

“I’m hoping that we can keep all of the local schools open in the Switzerland District, because I think that’s what the voters have said. They did not choose have a large central school like a Wheeling Park, John Marshall or Brooke, but to have local schools,” Bedford said.

The hearing consisted of both sides making opening statements and testimony from several witnesses, including school superintendent John Hall.

A decision is expected to be made next week.
