Charleston Police say a deer they estimate weighs 250 pounds is trapped behind a generator near the Charleston Town Center Mall where he’s stayed for hours without moving.
Several units with CPD are on scene trying to figure out how to safely get the buck out. At this time, they think they’ll have to tranquilize the deer before moving him to a safe location.
The buck has been laying on the ground since about 8 a.m.
Officers believe the deer swam across the Kanawha River earlier this morning before being hit by a car and hobbling to safety behind the generator.
Police are waiting for the Department of Natural Resource to arrive and give them a better idea of what needs to be done.
We will continue to update this story with more information as it becomes available.
