The next few days are looking sunny and hot, but Benwood’s pool won’t be open for people to cool off just yet.
The water may look clear but a filter malfunction Monday stained the walls black and left a dark film over the pool.
The tint was caused by extra magnesium in the water, and while it’s not dangerous to swimmers.
Police Chief Frank Longwell said the city wants to make sure the pool is cleaned up before reopening this weekend.
“We adjusted our chemical system and it has cleared up, and just for precautionary measures we’re going to go ahead and shut the pool down for today, and it could possibly open on Friday,” Longwell said.
He added the pool gets most of its visitors on weekends right now, so the city is working hard to re-open it as soon as possible.
