There was a big celebration at Grand Vue Park for the grand opening of the West Virginia Disc Golf Museum.

Disc golf is played just like traditional golf with 15 to 16 discs that mimics the traditional bag of clubs.

Paul Ashmore the president of the West Virginia Disc Golf association says that the sport has become very popular across the country.

When the Grand Vue course first opened there were only nine disc golf courses in West Virginia and now there are over 45 courses in the Mountain State.

Ashmore says the course at Grand Vue is one of the finest in the country.

“People have traveled from Ohio, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania just to come to this one event. Just right now people traveling from all over the East Coast to come play this weekend because this course is ranked number one in the state, it’s ranked number 38 in the country and it’s a hidden gem here in our Ohio Valley and I’m hoping to bring that to the light,” said Ashmore.

Ashmore says his vision is to host a world championship for disc golf in the Ohio Valley in the year 2021.
