Downtown Wheeling Subway Robbed


UPDATE: Friday, 10:15 a.m.

The Wheeling Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred this morning at the Downtown Wheeling Subway store.

Officers responded to the store shortly after 7:00 a.m.. Police say after opening the store, a male suspect entered the building with his face covered and brandishing a knife. According to police, the suspect forced a female into a corner, removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and took off on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, short and small in stature. His direction of travel is unknown. 

The victim was injured during the encounter and treated for laceration to her hand. She has been released. 

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call Wheeling Police at 304-234-3664 or leave a tip at the departments website.

Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger confirms for 7News that the Subway in Downtown Wheeling has been robbed.
