The Dragon Boat Wheeling event will be held despite public concern of blue-green algae blooms in the Ohio River.
Health officials warn participants to be careful when swimming in the river.
Organizers of the races said that they are working closely with the health department to keep everyone safe.
“We’ll have a hose here for people to rinse off when they get out. We’ll have hand sanitizer in several locations and we are asking people to wash their hands. We’ll have the rest rooms open. If you get a little wet then just wash off and wash your hands, […] you will be just fine,” said the Executive Director of King’s Daughter, Jamie Remp.
The water quality is a top priority right now, but officials want to stress that the water is still safe to drink.
