The Hancock County Sheriff’s office conducted a seat belt checkpoint on November 9, 2015 on Route 2 in Newell.

Nearly 3,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and again from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m..

“60 drivers were issued citations for seat belt violations.  Additionally, one driver was cited for improper child restraint, at which time the deputy provided the family with a car seat,” said Sheriff Ralph Fletcher.

“Hopefully these citations will serve as a reminder of the importance of driver and passenger safety.” Said Fletcher.

A DUI checkpoint is scheduled for November 14 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Route 2 in Newell.
