Students at Edison Local High School had their first active shooter drill of the year.

The sounds of fake gun shots rang through the halls as they were able to evacuate the building at a very quick pace, gathering at a central meeting place in front of the school.

Sergeant Anthony Porreca of the Toronto Police Department lead the drill, and said only two students were in the line of fire.

Superintendent  Bill Beattie says he is pleased with the results and tells us why training like this is so important.

“We just have to be prepared, you just never know. You never know if its going to have to be you who has to deal with this. I just think we need to make sure our students are prepared and our staff are prepared,” said Beattie.?

Beattie says this is the first unannounced drill of the year, of the three that are now required by state law.
