Elementary Students Care for Momma and Ducklings

A mother and her ducklings have left the pond and are calling “Middle Creek” home.

Students at Middle Creek Elementary School watched in anticipation on Thursday as mallard ducklings began to hatch.

The proud momma began laying eggs in front of the school the Monday following Easter.

Wanting to protect the ducklings, Ohio County Schools bus driver, Todd Porter, constructed a fence around the area creating a temporary “duck nursery.”

By Friday morning, six ducklings had hatched.

School officials say the students have enjoyed taking a few moments to watch the cute new visitors.
