A former Ohio police chief accused in a scheme involving deceptive purchases of used police cruisers was placed on five years’ probation for his conviction of receiving stolen property and complicity to theft.

A Hocking County judge sentenced Frank Diamond this week. The 43-year-old former Laurelville acting chief was accused of working with another Laurelville ex-chief to buy Pike County cruisers for themselves rather than for the Laurelville department in Hocking County. Court documents say the cruisers were then sold at a profit.

No phone listing for Diamond was found. His attorney didn’t return a call Thursday.

Diamond could serve up to a year in prison if he violates probation. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office says Diamond had to permanently surrender his Ohio peace-officer certificate and must pay $1,200 restitution.
