A nationally known expert on teen violence, bullying, and mass murders visited Belmont County on Friday.
Phil Chalmers has interviewed more than 200 teen killers, and has developed theories on what prompts kids to kill. He says there are clear causes, warning signs and triggers.
He points to violent video games, torture films and violent music as some of the causes.
He added that it’s important for everyone to learn the warning signs so we can prevent more violent crimes.
“A kid that’s obsessed with violence. Everything they touch or do is violent. They’re obsessed with violent entertainment, they’ve obsessed with deadly weapons. These kids will be bed wetters, they’ll be fire starters, they’ll be cruel to animals. There’s about 20 warning signs,” says Chalmers.
Chalmers has studied juveniles for 30 years. He’s the author of the book “Inside The Mind Of A Teen Killer.” He now speaks to teachers, counselors, school administrators and police officers.
