The Wheeling Park Patriots took off from Wheeling Island Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Friday, heading for Point Pleasant.
Friends, family and fans yelled, cheered and waved signs and banners, giving them an enthusiastic sendoff.
Park beat the Point Pleasant Big Blacks in 2013, and since then, the Big Blacks have been unbeaten on their home turf.
The winner tonight advances to next Saturday’s Super 6 Championships, played on Wheeling Island, and that’s a prospect that has Park fans excited.
“Oh my God we are thrilled for this game! This is one step closer to the championship. This is huge for this team. They are playing their hearts out and we are all behind them and ready to cheer them on to the Super Six,” said Debbie Wilkinson, mother of WPHS Quarterback, Cross Wilkinson.
“We are very excited. As you can see, the support we had here this morning is phenomenal for our football team. We believe in TWBAI, both the team and the parents, and we’re all going down to Point Pleasant to cheer them on to victory,” said Terry Phillips, mother of WPHS receiver, Nathan Phillips.
“TWBAI” stands for “Team Wins Brotherhood All In.” It’s a motto Coach Daugherty and his players know well.
Point Pleasant‘s record is 12-0. Park’s is 10-1-1.
Kickoff is at 7:30 tonight and our Scott Nolte is there. We’ll have all the highlights and game coverage tonight at 10:00 and 11:00.
