WELLSBURG, W.Va. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a West Virginia man to 30 years in prison in the death of his 7-month-old son.
The Weirton Daily Times (http://bit.ly/2dMrN7V) reports that Christopher Devin Kinker received the sentence Tuesday in a Brooke County courtroom. Kinker had pleaded no contest to a charge of abuse causing death.
Kinker’s attorney, Christopher Scheetz, said his client maintains his innocence, though he entered the plea because he believed a jury could find him guilty.
Kinker said he did not abuse his son, but he did fail to make sure the boy received adequate care. The child died in 2014 after suffering skull fractures.
The prosecutor said evidence showed that the infant’s death occurred on a night when the child was in Kinker’s care.
