Fire at Martins Ferry Home Ruled as Arson

Investigators have ruled an abandoned house fire at 328 North Zane Highway in Martins Ferry as arson.

They say the fire started at 3:12 a.m. on Thursday, April 30.

When firefighters arrived, they say there was heavy fire in the rear of the house. They say no one had lived there for years, and there was no electric or gas service.

An investigation is underway, involving Martins Ferry Fire and Police departments, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Explosion Investigations Bureau.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for the fire.

Anyone with information about this fire is urged to call the Fire Marshal’s Office at 1-800-589-2728.

The structure has been ruled unstable and is leaning badly. The fire department is working with the city to expedite the demolition process.
