Fire Destroys 8 Apartments in Bellaire

Eight apartments are a total loss after a fire at the Bel Capre Apartments in Bellaire Wednesday night.

Neffs Fire Chief Mike Knowlton said the cause of the fire is unknown and the Ohio State Fire Marshal will be on the scene to investigate Thursday.

All of the tenants of the apartments got out safely, with no injuries reported.

One witness said she heard a loud pop by the laundry room in the center of the building right before the smoke and flames started to take over the structure. That woman said she worked to kick down doors and get people out of the building.

Four fired departments, including Neffs, Cumberland Trail, Brookside and OR&W responded to the scene.

The Salvation Army is taking donations of anything that can help the victims of the fire, including furniture, clothing, and other necessary items. They can be reached at 740-676-6225.

Multiple Fire departments in Belmont County were toned out Wednesday night for a massive fire outside of Bellaire.

Departments were called around 8:00 p.m. to the Bel Capre Apartments where flames could be seen for miles.
