It was a momentous day for Jason Cuomo, the new judge for the First Judicial Circuit, who will be filling the shoes of longtime judge Martin Gaughn.
Cuomo who is a graduate of Brooke High School says he’s always wanted to become a judge and now it’s finally become a reality.
It was standing room only at the swearing in ceremony that took place inside of a Brooke County courtroom, where distinguished judges and attorneys offered words of wisdom and advice.
“Oh, I take it all in just like I’ve taken everything else in over the past 20 years of advice I’ve been getting from attorneys all over the place,” says Cuomo. “I just take it all in. I still have to be my own man and treat each case individually. But I appreciate all the advice and it comes from a lot of smart people.”
Cuomo says he will be taking over the drug treatment courts, criminal docket in Hancock County and civil docket in Brooke County.
