First New Years Baby of 2015 Makes Debut at Local Hospital


It will be a year one family will never forget.

Connie and Richard Smith gave birth to their second child, a healthy baby boy, early this morning.

Making him the first baby to be born in the Ohio Valley on New Years Day.

Baby Richard Everett Smith was born at 2:01 a.m. on January 1st at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, weighing 5 lbs. 15 oz.

He was named after his father and deceased great grandfather.

At just a day old he was already surprising his family.

“We actually wasn’t due to have him for another 2 weeks so this was a surprise,” says mother Connie Smith.

He’s also becoming quiet the celebrity. He was not only the first baby to be born in 2015, but the first New Years Baby delivery for OVMC in several years.

“Its the first time in a while that we at OVMC have delivered the New Years baby and I think it’s a great time for us to do that as the hospital has seen a resurgence in the community, Public Relations Manager of OVMC/EROH Laurie Lebishak explains.”What a great way to show the hope and the excitement that we have in serving the Ohio Valley.”

Richard is the second child for the Smith’s.

They also have a 5 year old daughter named Abigail who they say is very excited about becoming a big sister.

The excitement doesn’t stop there though.

“Oh it’s exciting and special, Smith says. “A real surprise.”

Congratulations to the Smiths and welcome to the world baby Richard.
