A first of its kind Special Olympics event kept students active in Marshall County on Tuesday.
100 students from across the county took part in this first ever basketball event. The event gave these children the opportunity to get out of the classroom and get moving, something coordinator, Catherine Folmar says is very important for the students.
“They can get out and get active, they interact with the students at John Marshall, the peer tutors. I have seventy peer tutors who volunteered, so they get to interact with the older kids and it’s important for the older kids, because they get to help out the younger kids,” said Folmar.
The next Special Olympics event will take place in April and will have a Track and Field theme.
