A fugitive from justice is back behind bars thanks to the quick reaction from a local police chief.
It all happened Wednesday when New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil noticed Doug Mathews walk out of a business.
Once Mathews saw Chief Cecil, he took off.
After a lengthy foot chase, Cecil was able to apprehend Mathews between a couple of houses on Clark Street.
Mathews now faces charges of fleeing an officer and being a fugitive from justice.
Mathews was wanted on charges in Pennsylvania and locally in Wetzel and Marshall Counties.
