Five in Custody; $20,000 Worth of Drugs Seized in Jefferson County Drug Busts

Five people were arrested and $20,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized during the search of three properties Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County, according to authorities.   

Berryon F. Moore III, 26 and his wife Amanda J. Vankirk, 37, of 149 Canton Road in Wintersville; Theresa A. Brown, 39 and Joseph A. Barker, 35, of 1017 Harding Avenue in Steubenville; and Leshawn T. Davis, 28, who resides at 2514 Sunset Blvd. Apt. 6, an apartment rented by Moore, were arrested by the Jefferson County Drug Task Force following a months-long investigation.

Officers said the warrants were executed simultaneously at all three locations. They recovered more than 100 grams of heroin, marijuana, one stolen firearm, two SUV’s, one vehicle and about $20,000 in cash.

Moore, originally from the Chicago area, was charged with one federal count of conspiracy to distribute heroin. He was taken to the federal court in Columbus.

Vankirk was charged with two counts of trafficking heroin, one (F1) count of possession of heroin and one count of possession of cocaine.

Barker was charged for parole violation.

Brown was charged with two counts of trafficking heroin and one count of possession of heroin.

Davis, originally from Chicago, was charged with three counts of trafficking heroin, one (F2) count of possession of heroin, one count of weapons under disability and one count of receiving stolen property.

Law enforcement from the Wintersville Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Steubenville Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, FBI and U.S. Marshal Service worked with drug task force detectives on the searches.


Authorities recovered a large amount of heroin and arrested five people following drug busts Thursday in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Drug Task Force executed three search warrants, one at 149 Canton Road in Wintersville, Ohio, one at 1017 Harding Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio and a garage apartment on Chestnut Street also in Steubenville.

Officers said they recovered 100 grams of heroin and more than $12,000 in cash.
