Former 7News reporter Dave Elias is in Orlando covering the mass shooting for his station WBBH in Fort Myers, Florida.
He says there is still a sense of pride in Orlando, with gay pride flags hanging up around the city.
He has talked to dozens of family members who lost loved ones and says it’s a real sense of shock.
He says in his 28 year career, he’s never covered a story with this level of anger, stress and disbelief.
“I was there as family members were getting word that their loved ones were killed. Many of them just dropping to the ground, screaming out, crying in pain. So this has just been a devastating story not only for Florida, but for the entire country,” Elias says.
He says one family who had a loved one trapped in a bathroom with about 30 other people said the shooter was laughing and joking and just randomly shooting people.
According to Dave, investigators are still working to get a good look at the suspect and motive.
