WASHINGTON (AP) – Former Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry has died.
His family says Barry died overnight at the United Medical Center, hours after being released from another hospital. He was 78.
Barry served four terms as mayor and was currently serving on the D.C. Council, representing one of the city’s poorest areas.
He was beloved by many but gained notoriety in 1990 when he was caught on video lighting a crack pipe in a Washington hotel room with a woman he accused of setting him up.
