More than 50 years ago, George and Marianne McCausland were supposed to be building a house with help from Bob Niggemyer, they also ending up building a lasting friendship.
“He was my plumber and we’ve been together ever since, you can’t get away from him,” said George McCausland.
Since then George and his wife Marianne have gotten together with Bob and his wife Patty and their friends Bob and Rita Morgan every New Years Eve. Their plans together have changed over the years but the one constant is that they’ve been together.
The Niggemyers hosted a potluck dinner this year and although the tradition started more than half a century ago, they still start every year the same: A champagne toast to start the evening before writing the date on the cork. They didn’t believe there would be that many corks when they first got together more than 50 years ago.
“We just enjoy being with each other and having a good time and screaming and yelling at each other when someone cheats at cards,” said Patty Niggemyer.
“We never dreamed it would be this long year after year after year and I can’t believe it has been over 50 years,” Bob Morgan. “We get along very well together and we enjoy each other and we all like to have a cocktail.”
