Local construction workers will now have a new project to start working on.
The groundbreaking was held today for the Fitzsimmons Foundation Press Box at Bishop Schmidt Field on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University.
The Fitzsimmons family along with members of the WJU community were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony.
It will be a 600 square foot building and gives the university the needed space to host sporting events.
“The press box is necessary because of the expanded use. Of the field. So right now we do not have room for the visiting and home teams coaches to have separate boxes and for the media and for all the officials and the people who run the scoreboard to all be inside. This new press box will give us the capacity to do all of that,” said WJU President Rev. James Flemming.
Project Best contractors will oversee the construction work.
The project is expected to be completed by the start of fall sports.
