A horse rescue group is criticizing the Belmont County Animal Rescue League’s horse division. They sent out pictures and e-mails to the rescue league and Belmont County Commissioners reporting that the horses have burrs in their manes and tails.
The group that sent the e-mails is called the Road Home Animal Project. While the pictures do show horses with briars and burrs in their tales and manes, the horses appear to be well-fed and shiny with neatly trimmed hooves.
Shelter Director Angela Hatfield said the briars are a problem that is being addressed. Hatfield said the rescue league has purchased a product called Cowboy Magic, and that personnel continue to work to untangle the horses manes and tails.
Hatfield said she would be happy to speak with the horse rescue group at length.
The horses were just recently cleared from a long-standing court fight to be put up for adoption, and two have already gone to new homes.
