Police in Bellaire recovered a stolen handgun from a 1968 burglary in Michigan, one of three stolen firearms recovered in the last couple of weeks.
Chief of Police Mike Kovalyk said the handgun from 1968 dates back to a burglary at a home in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The gun was found in a hidden compartment wrapped in a camo head-net mask inside an impounded vehicle from a traffic stop at the Circle K parking lot Tuesday.
The two other handguns were found by police Sunday as a result of a domestic violence call in the 4100 block of Trumbull Street, with one of the guns being stolen from the Bellaire area and the other from St. Clairsville, OH, according to Kovalyk.
Additionally a 12-gauge pistol grip shotgun was found, which was not reported stolen.
Officers have been in contact with the McCombs County Sheriff’s Department in Michigan who has notified the owner, an 80-year-old man, of the stolen gun from 1968.
Both cases are ongoing and charges are pending.
