A high speed pursuit, crash, and small scuffle is how an incident in Sistersville ended Monday night, and now the Sergeant involved is home recovering.

It all started around 6:30 p.m. when officers were notified about a car being stolen from the Par Mar Convenience Store.

Sergeant Alex Northcraft with the Sistersville Police Department went to the Par Mar to review surveillance video when the car in question went driving by.

The vehicle sped away from the convenient store and that’s when officers with the Sisterville PD and Tyler County Sheriff’s Department started their pursuit.

At the end of the pursuit the driver was identified as Joseph W. Rodgers of Gaffney, South Carolina.

At the end of the chase, Rodgers struggled with police and it was at that time, Sergeant Northcraft was trying to place his firearm back into his holster when the gun went off, striking the himself in the upper leg.
