A homeless man in Aspen, Colorado won $500,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket, beating the 840,000-to-1 odds.
Michael Engfors, 61, had been homeless for nearly six years after losing his business and going through a divorce. He had been staying at the Aspen Homeless Shelter when, on a whim, he bought a $10 ticket at an Aspen gas station.
When he scratched off the ticket, he realized that he was half a million dollars richer.
Engfors said that he plans on using the money to re-connect with his daughter, whom he hasn’t seen in 20 years.
