Hundreds turned up in Weirton on Thursday for a food giveaway at the Salvation Army.
Mountaineer Food Bank brought 6,000 pounds of food and drinks to hand out in Hancock County, which is considered a red, or high, county for food need.
According to Mountaineer Food Bank, one in six people will visit a food pantry, soup kitchen or other feeding program in 2016, and they rely on volunteers and corporate donors to help keep those in need fed.
“We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our mobile pantries, in the warehouse. Volunteers are what make a non-profit organization very strong, and we do encourage volunteers,” said Tamera Morrison with the Mountaineer Food Bank
