Hundreds of Coats Donated to Brooke County Kids

A recent act of kindness this holiday season will last for months to come.  Hundreds of kids in the Ohio Valley will now have a coat to keep them warm thanks to a local organization.

The Wellsburg Lions Club agree donated more than 300 coats to kids in need throughout Brooke County.

“It’s very important that we get these kids something that so when they’re at the bus stop or out playing that they have something warm that they get to keep,” said Paul Billiard, Warwood Lions Club Chairman.

Hundreds of jackets filled the room that the club is using until they begin handing them out Wednesday to kids at almost every school in the county, from Millsop Primary to Beech Bottom Primary.

The need for coats has more than doubled in the the last four years that the Wellsburg Lions Club has done the coat drive.

“That says a lot about what we are going through in our area. we’re very very glad that we can help fill those needs,” said Jonathan Beall, Wellsburg Lions Club President.

Billiard says without huge donations from the community, Ferns Family Investments, Main Street Bank and Eagle Manufacturing, none of the coat donations would be possible.

They raised $9,000 to buy 1,500 items later, all to help kids throughout the county be a little warmer this winter.
