Hundreds of Fallen Officers to be Honored in Wheeling

In the history of the Mountain State, over 200 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. This week those fallen officers will be honored at a ceremony at Wheeling Heritage Port.

The Wheeling Police Department will hold their annual Law Enforcement Memorial on Wednesday. This year’s guest speaker will be former Pittsburgh Steeler and Vietnam War Veteran Rocky Bleier.

The Pittsburgh Police Pipe and Drum Band will perform along with the Warwood Middle School Choir. The Ceremony will begin at 5:30.

“In today’s society sometime people forget about the sacrifice that law enforcement make. Many of these men and women have given the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. I think it’s important for people to recognize the men and women who do go out everyday, put on a uniform and help protect the citizens,” said LT. Phil Redford of the Wheeling Police Department.

Police officials say that anyone planning on attending the event should arrive early since it will take place the same evening as the Wheeling Nailers playoff game.
