Hundreds Served at Christmas Day Luncheon at Wheeling Church

Hundreds of people in need were given a hot meal on Christmas Day thanks to volunteers at a Wheeling Church. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Wheeling Island hosted their annual Christmas Day luncheon, a delicious meal of ham, scalloped potatoes, salad and dessert.

Volunteer Rick Daugherty said every year he sees the amount of people coming through the doors increase, with more families utilizing the service. “We’ve always said the perfect year would be when we show up and do this and nobody is here. That would be awesome, but we’ve served approximately 150 people today,” he said.

Daugherty added the Christmas luncheon has been going on for 20 years, to bless those less fortunate with a full dinner on Christmas.

Jebbia’s Market, Perkins and members of the community helped put the meal together by donating food, as well as fruit and vegetables that people could take home.
