Hundreds of people looking for a job attended one of the valley’s largest job and career fairs at WesBanco Arena on Tuesday.
The WTRF Ohio Valley Career and Job Fair hosted 45 hiring employers ranging anywhere from retail, to sales, to the construction industry.
Those seeking employment were able to fill out applications on the spot as well as talk to employers face to face.

“I have hired plenty from this job fair I am usually pretty busy while I am here. Stacey McMullen with GMS Mine Repair and Maintenance said. “I know that I have hired quite a few people from this job fair alone.”

Cindy Barone who now works at TriSeal says she was able to find employment by attending last year’s job fair.  “I must have applied for maybe 35 to 45 jobs,” Barone said. “My resumes were going everywhere, but it wasn’t until the WTRF Job fair that I landed my first job. A resume you can read, but a person that a whole different thing. These job fairs are essential”.

It’s that face to face interaction that brings so many job seekers out to the job fair year after year.

“That’s why I’ve come to the Job fair today to just see person to person you know verses an online application,” Thomas Gerdau said. “I’m not saying an online application is bad, but you really don’t get to meet person to person and sometimes there are so many filed online you don’t get a chance to talk to somebody.”

Many of the people that attended were able to fill out dozens of applications and apply for a wide variety of jobs.

“I think people in this area have been looking for work for a long time and sometimes an opportunity door opens and closes and you got to go out their and try to find every opportunity you can,” Gerdau said. “It might not always be the best job, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.”

The job fair was held from noon until 5:00 p.m and during that time period more than 700 people were able to attend.
