Identity Released of Wellsburg Officer Involved in Single Car Accident

The name of the Wellsburg police officer involved in a single car accident that happened over a week ago has been identified.

Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said the officer involved is 23-year-old Taylor White.

White was recently sworn in as Wellsburg’s first female officer.

Officials said White was driving an unmarked cruiser through New Cumberland on Route 2 on June 14 when she reportedly hydroplaned, crossed the center line and crashed into a bench and a flower box.

Witnesses said she then put the car in reverse and sped off to Wellsburg Lt. Lester Skinner’s house.

The investigation is still ongoing.

*A correction has been made in this story to correct Lester Skinner’s title. He is the police chief in New Cumberland and a lieutenant for the Wellsburg Police Department.
