Hi Ho, Hi Ho… off to Disney one area marching band goes!
It’ll be a whole new world once the Indian Creek Marching Band touches down in Orlando Wednesday to play at the Magic Kingdom’s Dreams come true parade.
“Excitement! Electrifying! We’re all really excited to get to Disney,” said Indian Creek Band Director, Donald Llewellyn.
“I feel proud since we get to represent Indian Creek all the way from Ohio. It’s great,” said 9th grader, Mackenzie Orban.
Every few years the band goes the distance, travelling to different parts of the country to play. They may be packing the bare necessities but their set list is loaded with favorites.
“I play the trumpet, and we play a variety of music. Like Hi Ho, The Little Mermaid, It’s a Small World, and Hakuna Matata,” said Orban.
Not even a surgery and wheelchair could keep 10th grader, Natalie Wood from being part of their world.
“We found out that I had to have it, and I was already signed up to do this, and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It’s a once and a lifetime experience for everyone,” said Wood.
They’ve been planning and fundraising for the trip for two years now and it’s nearly time to let it go, and perform. Something the 15-year veteran band direct is sure they will do.
“We’re a good show band and our kids love to perform, so when the lights are on, we’re at our best usually,” said Llewellyn.
Nearly 140 kids and their more than 50 parents and chaperons take off on two planes Wednesday morning at noon.
In the coming years, the band director says they hope to take the band to Hawaii to play at Pearl Harbor.
