Two brothers were killed in a Christmas Eve fire in Monroe County. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office released the names of the two victims on Christmas Day. They are being identified as Bob and Bill Lowe of King’s Highway near Beallsville.

On Friday, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office released that the brothers were both alive when the fire started.

“Seeing the place fully engulfed was heart-wrenching,” said neighbor Virginia Hammel. Hammel said she has known the brothers for over 20 years. She said the men were going through a tough time recently, faced with the death of their mother in the spring, and their father in the fall. Hammel said she and other neighbors are in disbelief.

According to Monroe County Coroner Investigator Randy Williams, he is calling the deaths very suspicious.  Williams said the most intense flames were toward the front entrance of the house. He has sent both bodies to the Licking County Coroner for complete autopsies.

The fire happened around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. The Ohio Fire Marshall and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are also investigating the fire.
