Jefferson County Commissioners Urge Two Towns to Apply for Grant

Jefferson County Commissioners are urging the towns of Bergholz and Amsterdam to apply for a grant that would save them tens of thousands of dollars in the long run.

Commissioner Dr. Thomas Graham says there is grant money available to tie the two towns sewage departments together with the county’s, and put a collection site closer to the two towns.

Graham says they are urging officials to jump on this opportunity now because it’s a pricey project. “The longer they wait, their cost is going to go up. The sooner they participate it would be to their benefit to participate hold the cost down, although there will be some costs, but we have the grant money now,” he said.

Dr. Graham adds that the more entities that participate, the better the chances are of getting grant money to put towards the sewage project.

He said eventually the EPA will mandate that they must update their sewage system in the future, so now is the time to apply for the grant.
