Jefferson County Woman To Spend 3 Years Behind Bars

A Jefferson County woman will spend at least the next three years behind bars.

Amanda Moore Vankirk was sentenced on Monday for her role in a large drug trafficking operation.

Last week, her trial for Felony Possession of drugs, among other charges, was scheduled to start, that’s when she changed her plea to “guilty.”

“She really had no choice with regard to possession and sale of these drugs,” said her attorney, Aaron Miller.

“63 grams of heroin, 60 individual bags of heroin that were in her purse, ready and willing to be distributed to the public. We have a zero tolerance and here in Jefferson County, drugs will not be tolerated and we have to punish these people to the fullest extent of the law,” said Jefferson County Prosecutor, Edward Little.

She was also fined more than $22,500 and her husband has federal charges pending.
