Big plays helped the John Marshall Monarchs defeat the Brooke Bruins 25-6 at Memorial Stadium in Wellsburg on a rainy Friday night.

Junior Austin Skrzyneki returned a punt 37 yards for a touchdown, and junior tailback Chase Gump rushed for 158 yards and two scores. Junior quarterback Noah Martin tossed a touchdown pass to Alex Whorton.

Brooke, now 3-6 on the season, mustered just a pair of field goals from Jacob Kennedy. They wrap up the season next Friday night at home against Cabell Midland.

The Monarchs, now 5-4, need to beat Wheeling Park (8-1) next Friday at Wheeling Island Stadium, and get a lot of help, in hopes to earn a Class AAA playoff berth.
