Judge Martin Gaughan Retires After Decades of Service

Family and friends joined Judge Martin Gaughan in celebrating his retirement today.

Attorneys, judges and friends from Brooke, Hancock and Ohio Counties honored Judge Gaughan and commended him for his decades of service.

Judge Gaughan graduated from, then, West Liberty State College with a degree in history in 1967 then from Duquense University with a masters degree and law degree. He practiced law in the Northern Panhandle for more then 20 years before being appointed to the bench in the First Judicial Circuit by, then, Governor Gaston Caperton in 1995.

He presides over the Northern Panhandle Mental Health Court, Adult and Juvenile Drug Court and Adult Re-entry program. He’s also received several awards for his work.

He first took the bench in 1995.
